Relaxing Ideas for the Holidays
Make colorful ornaments.
Melted crayon ornaments are an incredibly simple idea and take only a few dollars and a little time. Purchase a set of clear ornaments designed for do-it-yourselfers and a pack of crayons (or gather up broken ones you already have). Peel the paper from the crayons and then place a couple of pieces into each ornament. While holding the knob at the end of the ornament, use a hair dryer to warm the crayons. Turn the ornaments, and the melting crayons will create designs on the inside of the ornaments.
Make some cookies – with a little help.
Baking cookies at the holidays is a tried and true idea for enjoying the season. For people who don’t bake often, however, this process can be more mess and fuss than joy. Instead bake cookies but don’t be afraid to take a couple of shortcuts. Purchase pre-designed rolls of cookies from the grocery store. Slice them up and bake them. If you want to get a little decorating in, get a roll of plain sugar cookies and add sprinkles or cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
Take an afternoon trip to the movies. Or an indoor garden. Or a cute little coffee shop.
You get the idea! Take some time to visit somewhere you enjoy. Go alone or with a couple of people whose company helps you to relax. Spending a couple of hours going out to see a movie can give you an inexpensive way to recharge during the hectic holiday season. It may not be the time to try out a local tourist attraction, as they may be packed with others doing the same, but a good morning coffee while reading a novel may be just what you need to power through the holidays with grace.
